Position overview:

To meet its expanding needs, Sagard is recruiting a lawyer to primarily support Portage Ventures, Sagard’s venture capital and digital asset strategies. Reporting to the Vice President, Legal Affairs and Assistant Secretary, the selected candidate will benefit from a unique and exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing and entrepreneurial environment and provide tactical and innovative legal advice to seasoned investment teams raising private investment funds and investing in venture capital companies and digital assets.

Your Responsibilities:

• Primary legal support role to Portage Ventures, Sagard’s platform focused on venture capital and digital assets, with possibility of assisting other Sagard strategies from time to time
• Work closely with, and act as a trusted advisor to, investment, business and fundraising team members on a wide range of matters, including investment transactions in several different countries, fund formation, fundraising, governance, regulatory developments and investor requests
• Identify and implement innovative and scalable legal practices and participate in various strategic and technology initiatives to support Sagard’s ongoing growth and expanding business activities
• Assist with the preparation and organization of limited partner advisory committee meetings and develop strong working relationships with investors.

Experience & Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 to 6 years of experience in corporate law and transactional / M&A
• Must be qualified to practice law in Québec, Ontario or New York
• Bilingual preferred, with superior writing skills in English
• Occasional travel may be required to Toronto, New York or other locations per business needs
