About Squads:

Since 2021, we’ve built products and APIs that unlock the benefits of modern money.

We began with Squads Protocol, the autonomous finance layer built on Solana. Secured by Solana’s permissionless ledger, Squads Protocol enables programmable payments, 24/7 USD liquidity, competitive yields and security enforced by deterministic code, not corporate promises.

The new financial stack is being built on blockchains, powered by tokenized assets, and designed for a world where value moves as freely as information. We build on Squads Protocol to bring this stack to every developer, business, and individual.

Stablecoins were once a niche experiment. Today, they’re one of the fastest-growing technologies in history. The question isn’t if stablecoins consume every aspect of finance, but when. We’re here to compress that timeline. Join us.

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Internal Controls & Compliance Specialist. In this foundational role, you will drive the implementation of internal control frameworks, oversee compliance operations, and safeguard the organization against financial crime and regulatory risk.

You’ll be responsible for the design, execution, and ongoing enhancement of our compliance infrastructure—ranging from KYC/KYB due diligence to on-chain transaction monitoring, internal audits, and regulatory alignment across global standards (e.g. SOC 2).

This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment and brings a strong analytical and regulatory mindset to cross-functional collaboration. You’ll report directly to the COO and work closely with other stakeholders to ensure operational resilience, audit readiness, and continued compliance excellence.

What you will be doing

KYC & AML Oversight

  • Conduct KYC/KYB reviews, sanctions screening, and enhanced due diligence (EDD) checks
  • Investigate suspicious activity and handle escalations in collaboration with internal teams and external partners
  • Perform on-chain analysis to detect fraud, money laundering, and compliance red flags using industry-standard tools

Internal Controls & Audit

  • Design and maintain internal controls to address risks related to AML, fraud, and operational inefficiencies
  • Lead internal audits, assess control effectiveness, and oversee remediation planning
  • Support external audits and regulatory reviews (SOC 2, ISO 27001, etc.) through clear documentation and control mapping

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

  • Interpret and integrate evolving global regulations (e.g., MiCA, DORA, GDPR) into control frameworks
  • Develop and manage risk assessments, permanent second-line controls, and monitoring dashboards
  • Maintain compliance documentation and ensure internal policies remain up to date and enforceable

Process Optimization & Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Partner with Legal, Finance, Security, and Product to implement controls and automate compliance processes
  • Analyze and improve workflows to enhance control efficiency and operational transparency
  • Contribute to training, documentation, and QA for internal and external compliance operations

Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Create clear and data-driven reports on suspicious activity, control deficiencies, and regulatory changes
  • Liaise with regulators, auditors, and senior leadership to communicate risk posture and compliance updates
  • Escalate critical compliance concerns and propose actionable solutions to mitigate risk

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in compliance, internal audit, risk management, or a similar function within a Fintech
  • Demonstrated expertise in KYC/KYB, AML policies, sanctions screening, and suspicious activity investigations
  • Experience implementing or auditing against standards such as SOC 2, GDPR, MiCA, DORA, ISO 27001
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks applicable to crypto/virtual asset service providers (VASPs)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate and interpret both on-chain and traditional financial data
  • Excellent communication skills, especially when collaborating with non-technical teams or external stakeholders
  • Highly organized, independent, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment

Nice to have:

  • Certifications such as CAMS, CISA, CIA, or equivalent
  • Hands-on experience with blockchain analytics platforms (e.g., Chainalysis, Elliptic, TRM, Notabene)
  • Familiarity with tools for identity verification and sanctions screening (e.g., Persona, Sumsub)
  • Prior experience working with remote-first fintech, crypto, or Web3 organizations
  • Comfort with audit lifecycle management and GRC tooling
