Senior Data Engineer

DESCRIPTION:

Foundry Digital, a subsidiary of the blockchain industry’s most prolific and active investor, Digital Currency Group, seeks a Senior Data Engineer to provide additional technical depth and leadership for its data engineering team.

The primary mission of the data engineering team is to design and implement the infrastructure needed to gather data relevant to the business, to catalog it, to expose it through databases and analytical tools, and to support other teams and lines of business in using it. Our senior data engineer will help us fulfill that mission.

Primary responsibilities of the senior data engineer include:

  • Architect robust and scalable data pipelines across a variety of APIs and blockchain protocols
  • Serve as primary owner of the data lake (a standard, four-bucket Terraformed s3 setup)
  • Collaborate with teams as needed to pull data into the data lake and other central pools
  • Collaborate with internal analysts to streamline their access to relevant business data
  • Integrate data acquisition, verification, cataloging, and governance into SDLC processes
  • Document data resources; support effective data discovery through a data catalog
  • Identify, vet new software useful for our data management infrastructure
  • Mentor junior and mid-career data engineers

ABOUT YOU:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree or Equivalent Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in data management, data engineering, or other data-related work

Preferred Qualifications; Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong communication skills, plus a willingness to document, present, and teach
  • Experience with databases, including, e.g., relational, key-value, columnar, full-text, and graph
  • Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code tools, particularly Terraform
  • Experience with ETL/ELT tooling and
  • Skill with AWS data management and query tools, such as
    • Kinesis, Firehose (Kafka)
    • Glue (jobs, crawlers)
    • Athena or open-source equivalents (Spark, Presto)

  • Comfort with team coding and revision-control tools, particularly GitLab
  • Experience developing reliable, testable, auditable data pipelines
  • Knowledge of CI/CD, SAST/DAST, unit, end-to-end testing, and general SLDC components
  • Familiarity with statistical or data-focused languages like Scala, Python (Pandas), R, and SQL
  • Familiarity with ACID data-lake design considerations and issues; lakehouse architectures
  • Experience with analytical tools such as Tableau, Metabase, or Power BI
  • Ability to surface data in Excel (knowledge of Power Query, Power Pivot a plus)
  • Experience with data cataloging/metadata management tools (e.g., Atlan, Talend, Collibra)
  • Experience with data federation/cataloging/mesh tools like Denodo
  • Understanding of various data intake strategies, including real-time
  • Understanding of the blockchain or financial industries

Note that working on-site is advantageous, but not required, and the data engineering team is itself currently geographically dispersed.
